Mindy Grimm
Director
Mindy Grimm is the Prevention Coalition Director at ICARE Union County, where she coordinates substance abuse prevention efforts throughout the community,
including youth development and life-skills.
Mindy leads an amazing team of stakeholders and community members who are invested in the pursuit of substance abuse prevention countywide but with emphases among community members between the ages of 11-25.
Before becoming Executive Director of ICARE, Mindy was a class of 2000 graduate from Union County High School. From fall of 2000 to spring of 2004, she attended Berea College where she was a student athlete and obtained a bachelors degree in education. She worked 12 years as a program director and wellness coach at the YMCA and coached girls’ soccer at Horace Maynard Middle School for 7 years. Her long-term passion for youth development, health and wellness, has been the driving factor toward her leadership
in community organization and service.
Mindy enjoys all the things a country girl from Sharps Chapel does. Hunting, fishing, 4-wheeler rides and life on the farm. She gives tremendous gratitude to all those who invested into her life, but most importantly the grace that God has given her. Without these, she would not be who she is today.

Samantha Brantley-Smith
Program Coordinator

Samantha Brantley-Smith is a lifelong resident of Union County. She is the proud mother and grandmother of some amazing kids. Samantha has a self-described "insane love for houseplants, gardening, family, and my dogs."
As a person in long-term recovery, her passion is to help prevent substance misuse in our community. Her mission is to be a safe person for those struggling with addiction, helping them find resources and heal their minds and bodies.

Samantha is a Certified Peer Recovery Specialist and Recovery Coach. She is certified to faciliate TNRAS risk needs assessments, and she is a notary public. Samantha is also working towards her Prevention Specialist Certification.

Carrie Cate

Assistant Program Coordinator
Carrie's roots are in Union County, and she is happy for the opportunity to serve. She works mainly behind the scenes in a support role at ICARE. She has a Master's degree in Counseling from Carson-Newman University and a Bachelor's degree in Animal Science from the University of Tennessee. She also works in a supervisory role for a global social services agency, and she worked many years in the veterinary field.
Carrie loves spending time with her husband and two children and the family's two dogs and two cats. She especially enjoys travel, being outdoors, drag racing, and anything animal-related.
Carrie truly believes in the power of relationships and human connection to change individual lives, thus changing entire communities over time.

"As a lifelong resident of Union County, I've seen firsthand the impact of substance abuse in our community. But I've also experienced the transformative power of recovery. Since becoming sober in February 2022, I've been driven to help others navigate their own journeys.
With the support of amazing mentors like my supervisor Samantha, I've discovered my purpose in guiding those struggling with substance misuse. I'm proud to say I'm now a Certified Recovery Coach (CRC), and I'm excited to bring my experience and passion to our community.
When I'm not working, you can find me curled up in bed watching TV (probably Law & Order SVU or Netflix). I'm all about spreading hope, humor, and a healthy dose of realism. Let's work together to create a brighter future for Union County."
